Thanks for the read! Hmm, I did not realize this particularly but I can imagine so because the heel portion catches alot of mud and dirt. I am just curious on their continuous use of it (I think they continued this in version 8). Cutting it might be alright though, because I do not think it would influence the performance of the shoe that much, assuming you get a clean cut out
